5 Rarely used genius methods for Data Visualisation
1. Nightingale Diagram
It can be called as one of the most oldest data visualisation innovation. Florence Nightingale came up with an idea to plot the bar graphs one upon the other, without losing any valuable insights. She did this by plotting not along an X-Y axis, but but eliminating the length of x axis. This makes it a spiral graph. we do see a modified version of the Nightingale diagram in the modern day, but not as often as they are supposed to be. This is because of the drawback it has. It has a drawback this is David McCandless nightmare. explaining the graphic to the audience. The nightingale diagram was very confusing for the general audience who were so used to reading bar graphs. hence, it’s popularity has faded away.
2. Spider Chart
A spider chart is a graphical method of displaying multivariate data in the form of a two-dimensional chart . It is represented on axes starting from the same point. The angle of the axes are uninformative. This is very similar to the nightingale diagram’s original form before florance nightingale modified it. Just as the nightingale diagram, it was very confusing for the general audience and hence, it’s popularity too faded away. The radar chart is also known as web chart, spider chart, spider web chart, star chart, star plot, cobweb chart, irregular polygon, polar chart, or Kiviat diagram. It can be plotted using any spreadsheet software.
3.Facet Grid
creted by Edward Muybridge in 1879, the Facet Grid is a method of plotting multiple small plots. But the difference between a Facet grid and a regular sub plot is that in a facet grid we’ll pick out a categorical feature and then create one plot for each and every catagory. This is very much like a life hack for data scientists and analysts. Seaborn allows python users to create FacetGrids.
4.Polar Plot
This graph sheet consists of concentric circles and radial lines that represent the magnitudes and phase angles respectively. These angles are represented by positive values in anti-clock wise direction. This plot is much more useful for engeneering control systems.
5.Packed Bubble Chart
For natural language processing, to display data in a cluster of circles, there’s no better way than packed bubble chart. Although we do have word cloud this chart takes it to the next level. We can use bubble chart to plot the most repeated values with bigger circles so they stand out more and less repeated values in smaller circles so they will be easier to ignore. Tableau Desktop allows us to create these bubble charts easily.
